Budget Padding: Transparency Group insists Dogara, others must step down

Yakubu-Dogara

Members of the House of Representatives, under the aegis of Transparency Group, yesterday insisted that the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, Minority Whip, Ado Doguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor must step down to face an investigative panel.

The members, who concluded their meeting late evening yesterday vowed to resist any move to suspend ousted chairman of Appropriation Committee, Abdulmunin Jibrin.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Yusuf Bala Ikara said the group in its resolutions agreed that a proper investigation must be carried out to reach the bottom of the matter.
He said: We resolved that Dogara and all other principal officers must step aside for two weeks to face investigation. “After the investigation they can return to their seats if they’re not found guilty. Also, Jibrin should come and address members of the group to know his motives.

“That we won’t allow any member to be suspended. We won’t accept the ethics and privileges committee as the investigator of the matter. We won’t allow any vote of confidence on Dogara or any other principal officer.” Meanwhile, members loyal to Speaker Dogara are meeting at the Ajuji Hotel to plot how to cage Jibrin and his co-travellers on the budget padding issue.

Also, it was gathered that Jibrin and his supporters are meeting in an undisclosed location in the Federal Capital Territory.
