Awilo Logomba, Onyeka Onwenu, Sir Shina Peters, Darey, Tiwa Savage & More to Perform at “Sunny on Sunday” Concert

Mavin Records’ Queen, Tiwa Savage is the latest addition to the roll call of performers for the Sunny On Sunday concert commemorating the 70th birthday ceremony of Juju music icon, King Sunny Ade.

She joins an already star-studded list of artists including the likes of Awilo Logomba, Onyeka Onwenu, Sir Shina Peters, Darey, Omawumi, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Iyanya, Jeff and Tyson Noir.

Similarly, Temple Management Company, who are the brains behind the event, have also unveiled the Jenifa’s Diary duo of Funke Akindele-Bello and Omotunde Adebowale David (Lolo1) to join Tee A as hosts for the night.

The world-class concert holds this Sunday, December 11 at the Temple Balmoral Marquee, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. It will be shown live by Multichoice Nigeria on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 29.

Speaking on her performance, Tiwa Savage enthused:

Personally, I have been looking forward to honouring King Sunny Ade and when this chance came, I grabbed it. Long before I dreamt of pursuing a music career, King Sunny Ade has paved the way for us especially on the international stage.

On a personal note, I still remember how he cancelled other requests to perform at my wedding ceremony and I will never forget his that rare act of graciousness.

Another major highlight of the event will be the auction of one of King Sunny Ade’s famous guitars masterfully painted by award-winning artist, Victor Ehikhamenor.

According to Femi Salawu, Media Executive, Temple Management, the masterpiece is a collector’s item and has been receiving anonymous bids. The auction will be moderated by United Auction House.

An ecstatic Ehikhamenor said:

When you are given the opportunity to add a line to the history of a legend, you’d better ask God to take your hand and guide your senses. I’ve loved King Sunny Ade’s music for the longest time and his rhythm is one of the best companion in my studio when working.

It was a pleasure creating on this guitar for his 70th birthday concert coming up this December. I just heard him say on TV “I have many guitars, but this is my favourite. I call it my baby.”

On a radio appearance, King Sunny Ade has promised his fans one of the biggest gifts. “This is one of my biggest nights ever and I promise to give my audience something to remember for a long time to come.”

Kailyn Lowry's twisted upbringing involved a rape so brutal that it landed her in the hospital. The Teen Mom 2 star's new tell-all, Hustle & Heart, reveals details from the traumatizing incident.

"A guy who'd been asking me out for a while showed up at my apartment plastered," Lowry wrote in her book that will be released on November 22. "He said he needed to talk to me. I let him in. He grabbed me, dragged me into the bedroom and forced me down."

Although Lowry, 24, tried to fight back, her attacker was "too strong" and "too rough." "I bled. I screamed," she wrote. "And when he left me, my body torn and my sheets stained with blood, I felt like I was dead."

Lowry's injuries were so severe that she was hospitalized. "The doctors stitched me up," she penned. "The pain was unbearable. It was obvious what had happened to me. And yet I wouldn't agree to a rape kit. I was shaken and afraid and overwhelmed by chaotic ideas of what would happen if I accused Caleb of rape. I couldn't stand to think about the consequences."

The mother-of-two then explained why she let her attacker get away with the crime. "I blamed myself for what had happened," she wrote. "I refrained from telling anyone. And even as it ate away at me, I tried to pretend it had never happened. I tried to escape into a reality in which I wasn't a victim."

But Lowry explained how she regretted her decision to not come forward. "If only I had stood up for myself, raised my voice and backed up my beliefs," she said. "If only I'd been living proof of the fact that no victim should live in shame. Then I could have turned what happened into a source of strength. I could be looking back now and feeling proud of myself."

But Lowry's sad childhood didn't end there, as she explained the effect her father's absence and her mother's alcohol abuse had on her. "My loneliness drove me to lose myself in clouds of weed smoke, in fights that got me suspended from school," she said.

Lowry revealed more about how her want of "love and stability" forced her "into the arms of boys." "In the eighth grade, I lost my virginity on a sidewalk," she wrote. "At fifteen, I was pressured into sex by a boyfriend who promised to wear a condom, and then took it off without telling me."

On her sixteenth birthday, she claimed her mother and his parents forced her into getting an abortion. "It shattered me," she said. When she became pregnant again only a year later with her ex-boyfriend JoRivera's child, she chose to go through with the pregnancy and "didn't care who said what about it."

As preparations get into full gear towards the prestigious awards ceremony AFRIMA 2016 this weekend, the African Union and the International Committee of the All Africa Music Awards, have unveiled hosts for the Sunday November 6 ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria.

The hosts, who were drawn from the three majorly spoken languages in Africa— English, French and Arabic— are Ahmed Soultan (Morocco); Bonang Matheba(South Africa) and Ika Jang (Congo).

Ahmed Soultan is a Moroccan music star, who is also an AFRIMA double award winner. He is a leader of the Moroccan Group, Nayda. Soultan is a multilingual artiste and celebrity, who speaks English, French, Portuguese and Arabic fluently. He has performed at the GLO CAF Awards and he is also a nominee for one of the categories of AFRIMA 2016. His albums include ‘Music Has No Boundaries’ (2004), ‘Tolerance’ (2005) and ‘Code’ (2009).

Bonang Matheba, is a versatile South African media personality, who anchors the popular SABC 1 Music Live Show. She is also a winner of the International Golden Horn Award for Best TV Presenter.

Ika Jong is a multi-talented bilingual Congolese TV Broadcaster and celebrity.

However, the Red Carpet hosts are Denola Grey, Denrele Edun, Hauwa AllahBura and Pam Happi.

Partyfully Yours: Champagne Taste… Beer Budget! 4 Ways an Events Planner Can Manage These Client Issues

As event planners, with special focus on the shower industry, we have come across all kinds of clients that want glitz and glam but are not willing to pay for it. They are the ones who screen grab all the outlandish and elaborate decorations from BellaNaija Weddings, graciously bombard our WhatsApp with all the pictures, and finally state “We are on a very small budget”. They forget that most times, price is a reflection of value.

Every event vendor, regardless of the scale or type of business i.e. wedding planner, wedding decorator, bridal shower planner, cooperate event planners etc., will definitely be able to relate to this. How do you deal with and manage such clients?

Here are 4 steps that have worked for us:

Manage your client’s expectations

Whilst it’s good to encourage your client to expect the best, we have learnt that it is necessary that you manage their expectations. Be very hesitant to promise or commit to what you cannot deliver. Sometimes clients get so excited and get carried away with their expectations that they forget to put their budget into perspective. Be straight and open with your client, and let them know what is attainable with their budget, however, encourage them to increase their budget to meet their desired expectations. We once had a client who sent us Instagram screen grabs from one of the most expensive decorators in Lagos, asking that her event be styled the exact way and not willing to spend the required costs. Luckily for us, we have a good relationship with the original decorator, who we contacted and asked for quotations for that event. We in turn forwarded this to our client and suffice to say, this brought our client back to her reality.

Agree on the must-haves and the nice-to-haves

After succeeding in managing your client’s expectations, you should then try to see how to help them manage their budget wisely. Get clarity on the things that are must-haves for your clients, and the things that are nice-to-haves. Do not assume or decide for your clients what their must haves and nice to haves are. From our little years of experience, we have realized that every client is different.

In the simplest form, must-haves are any requirements that absolutely have to be delivered for the event to be considered successful. This helps create the base set of expectations with the client. On the other hand, nice to haves are the complement of objectives or requirements that are considered desired or even important to the overall deliverable, but can be considered as non- critical in the overall execution of the event. When you agree on must-haves and nice to have, be sure you understand the scope of the must-haves. If the bride’s wearables are must-haves, for instance, make sure you are clear on what the client expects. Is it a sash and tiara only? Or a full outfit is expected? This is important to prevent conflicts.

Suggest similar & cheaper alternatives to your clients

Yes indeed, this is another way to go about this. This is a good approach when you can tell the client has been price-comparing vendors. In these modern times of social media, you will find that some clients are more concerned about the glitz & glam than the actual quality and content of the package. Most of them would actually just be satisfied with having an event that ‘looked’ expensive, than an event that was actually expensive, so suggesting cheaper alternatives might be a way out. Even if it won’t work for them they’ll still appreciate your effort. You can also suggest to your client to look inward for some of their must haves in order to save money. For instance, is there a friend that bakes that can bring the cake for the shower? Instead of hiring an actual Dj, can one of the guests prepare a playlist and come with a mobile speaker.

Always remember, not every job is yours

What do you do when you have tried all you can and all fails? Remember, not every job is yours. This is one of the very first lessons we learnt the hard way. If you see that your client is neither willing to increase her budget or manage her expectations, it may be wise to opt out of the job, than taking on something you can’t deliver and in turn disappointing your client or run at a loss. There will always be clients that do not understand the value in decoration and planning, and therefore will not understand your pricing.

Don’t waste time on these clients; they often turn into a huge headache later on, because they want everything for nothing. If they are being very pushy about your prices from the beginning, take this as a red flag. This means they may complain about invoices later on and be a pain when it comes to collecting your balance.

Finally, do not compromise your standards for any client. They approached you because you maintained a certain standard anyway. Do not be pressured to deliver something you will not be proud of because you are trying to fit into a budget that is not workable.
